Roses Are Red

 Violets are blue

Winter's almost over

There are so many new books to review!

I know...it's weak...but I tried.

Spring is coming soon and with each new season comes a new list of books that pique my interest and get me excited to go check the mail and see if my preorders have arrived yet.

I never used to preorder books but social media has helped me understand that preordering books help the authors and publishers. I have also been more than a little annoyed when showing up at a store and finding the new release I've been anxiously waiting for is either sold out or not yet stocked because there wasn't enough interest. Sigh.

So now I do my best to support the creators and the industry I love so much by preordering a few titles each season.

I'll be honest: I haven't decided which of these books I am going to preorder but I want all of them. Unfortunately, money does not grow on trees.

Leave a comment with the spring books you're most excited about and maybe you can influence my book shopping list.

March Releases

In the Margins by Elena Ferrante

Essays on writing from a brilliant writer, yes, please!

French Braid by Anne Tyler

A local hero, Anne Tyler is an auto-buy author for anyone within a 30-minute radius of Baltimore. A family story full of heart. So basically, the thing Tyler does best.

April Releases

Bomb Shelter by Mary Laura Philpott

One of the descriptions I read of this said something about these essays being about "anxiety and optimism." There is no better description of my inner psyche.

The Candy House by Jennifer Egan

The premise of this is both riveting and terrifying. I cannot wait.

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel

...because it's by Emily St. John Mandel, that's why.

I Guess I Haven't Learned That Yet by Shauna Niequist

Similar to Emily St. John Manel, I like this author. But I also like the concept of learning new strategies when old ones fail us. This sounds like music to my enneagram 1 heart.

Let's Not Do That Again by Grant Ginder

This was listed as "for fans of HBO's Veep." I'm in.

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams

You might want to look away while I read this childhood favorite updated with illustrations from the illustrator of A Sick Day for Amos McGee. I can 100% guarantee there will be tears.

May Releases

Book Lovers by Emily Henry

A bookish rom-com is just what I need to get me through my first child graduating high school.

This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub

This could be a challenge for me. I turn 40 this year and my dad passed away a couple of years ago. Dads and turning 40 are big themes. But I love Emma Straub and am willing to go to hard places because she always shows up with grace, humor, and solid writing.

Happy Go Lucky by David Sedaris

Can. Not. Wait.

Oh, and let's not forget the books already sitting on my shelves giving me dirty looks while I compile this list. I want to read some of those too. No, really I do. I promise!!!
